Orisun Studio launched the research project Hood Politics in response to the growing demand for the social relevance of museums in a postcolonial and super-diverse society. The project examines how art and culture can contribute to promising, livable neighborhoods and an inclusive urban future. Simultaneously, Orisun is exploring the development of its own physical space—a “museum of the future” that functions as a creative hub for and with the neighborhood.
Background
The social climate makes it clear that the conventional museum model no longer reflects social realities. There is a need for so-called third places—accessible spaces for encounter, reflection, and imagination. Hood Politics aims to reverse the legitimacy crisis of cultural institutions by developing new forms of ownership, collaboration, and meaningful interaction with residents.
